Why This Trip is In a Category of Its Own
South Komodo is where the ocean gets serious. Cold upwellings, nutrient-rich currents, and some of the most dramatic marine encounters on the planet. One day, three dives, zero compromises.
Hammerhead Sharks — The Main Event
South Komodo's thermoclines attract scalloped hammerhead sharks in numbers rarely seen elsewhere in Indonesia. We dive into the blue water column at 30–40m, hovering in the cold current as these prehistoric animals pass below. Peak season June–October but sightings happen year-round.
Oceanic Mantas — Manta Alley
Manta Alley in South Komodo is one of the only places in Indonesia where oceanic manta rays — the larger, rarer cousin of the reef manta — are seen regularly. These giants can span over 6 metres. The third dive of the day often takes place here as conditions allow.
Remote Reefs, Raw Ocean Energy
The southern sites are far less visited than Central Komodo — pristine, wild, and unpredictable. Dramatic walls, hard coral gardens, strong thermoclines that drop the visibility to near-nothing one moment and crystal blue the next. This is Komodo the way it should be experienced.
South Komodo's Four Key Sites
Sites are confirmed on the day based on currents, swell and season. Your guide always selects for maximum encounter potential and safety.
Batu Tiga — Hammerhead Point
AdvancedThe primary hammerhead site. Three submerged rocks create upwellings that attract pelagics — hammerheads at 30–40m in the blue, accompanied by schooling barracuda, tuna and giant trevally.
Manta Alley — Oceanic Giants
All AdvancedA channel between two islands where oceanic manta rays feed and cruise. Shallower than the hammerhead sites — a dramatic contrast. The current sweeps you alongside these giants in conditions unlike anything in Central Komodo.
Cannibal Rock — Muck Paradise
Intermediate+Komodo's most celebrated macro site. Nudibranchs, frogfish, ghost pipefish, seahorses — all in extraordinary density on a shallow reef. A perfect contrast dive after the adrenaline of the pelagic sites.
Yellow Wall of Texas
AdvancedA striking wall carpeted in yellow soft corals — one of the most visually arresting dive sites in all of Indonesia. Strong current, rich marine life, and photographic opportunities at every depth.
A Long, Unforgettable Saturday
